The Caretakers Cottage

This cozy lakeside cottage with deeded private lake access was built in 1945 has loads of charm. Its original days served as a home for the caretaker of a resort that was on Platte Lake. It’s now a unique and wonderful property geared towards families and individuals who want to enjoy a piece of the “Up North” lake & outdoor experience. With so many amazing towns and activities nearby, you will find so much to do. This is a wonderful lakeside property with private deeded lake access that has lots of private, outdoor space for families and guests to enjoy themselves during summer months. The deck offers a lake view and is perfect for relaxing, having coffee or dining al fresco. The location offers so many options to get the most out of your stay. During summer months, you can take a kayak, canoe or paddleboard out to the lake. From the lake, you can also access the platte river which will take you all the way out to a beautiful beach on the shores of Lake Michigan. There are several biking trails that are within a short drive from the home (sleeping bear heritage trail & Bettie river valley trail). There are tubing and kayak rentals & excursions offered by Riverside canoe - just a few minutes away! The cottage is close to many amazing towns the area has to offer (Beulah, Frankfort, Empire, Glen Arbor are all within 15-20 min and Traverse City is within 35 min). There are many local festivals, live music options and great restaurants and breweries within a short drive! In winter months, Crystal Mountain offer skiing and snowboarding within 15 miles. The area receives lots of snowfall each year, attracting those who enjoy winter activities, including ice fishing, cross country skiing as well as snowshoeing or just offering a scenic escape to enjoy peaceful moments snuggled up by a fire! Beyond the location, the 3 bedroom, 2 bath cabin itself is stocked and ready with everything you need to enjoy your trip. An original lakeside cottage “Up North” that is a great backdrop for making memories. On the first floor you will find a spacious living room and seating area, dining room, kitchen with eating area, a full bath, and access to both the deck and the 3 season room on the back of the cottage. One bedroom is on the main floor, currently with a queen bed. A washer and dryer is also available on the first floor for your convenience. On the second floor, you will find two other bedrooms (one with a queen bed, and the other with a trundle bed that has a full mattress on top and a twin pull out mattress on the bottom). Please note that lake access is for a deeded 10 foot wide easement that allows our guests to enter and exit the water. There is no dock available for use. However is an excellent entry and exit point for kayaks, canoes, paddleboards or floats. Any use of surrounding area by guests is strictly prohibited.
